Case Study 1
Weekend retail fitout on a constricted budget

The client invited us to do the job on a negotiated contract, because they like how we work. They had a very constrained timeline, requiring most of the work to be done over one weekend. They also had a fixed budget, that we had costed, based on their preliminary plans. The client approved this budget at senior levels.
Changes took the project over budget
When the clients’ team drew up the final construction plans there were some amendments. The costings were adjusted by a client-appointed quantity surveyor, and were now way over budget. We needed to find a way to meet our client’s expanded needs, within the original budget.
We worked with the client’s professional team to identify a range of cost savings using different materials, and forgoing some non-essential items. In this way the project came within the required approved budget.
In-depth preparation and close cooperation
The majority of the work was carried out over a weekend when the shop was closed. The program for the project was painstakingly prepared in advance, so that the fitout could be carried out within the set timeframe. A key component of success in this project, was the close cooperation and creative problem solving among all parties including Format, our sub-contractors, the client’s professional team. The client was very pleased with the result. They were delighted that they were able to achieve their requirements within their budget.
