Case Study - Preservation

Modernise and Preserve a Rundown Villa

The Client wanted to modernise a neglected Devonport villa, without detracting or compromising from the era of the house which the client was keen to preserve. They didn’t require the existing fireplace and they wanted to incorporate an office area without it looking like an office.

Modern materials in harmony with an older world

To keep to keep the period villa look we used framed doors, lacquer finish and colonial style handles. We made a feature of the fireplace for the stove area with air extraction through the chimney. We used granite tops for an “oldy worldy” look. The office space / workstation was cleverly incorporated at the end of kitchen where she could do her work without the workspace being obvious.

Colonial Style with modern features

We managed to marry the latest features with the original colonial style. A modern kitchen with modern fittings and functions with a design in keeping with the turn of the century style. The owner was delighted. She told all of her friends, which lead to further work. The house was featured in a published article arranged by the owner.
